Mortgage Lending Leaders and Veteran’s Programs Unite to Honor a Military Hero

Mesa, AZ / April 2, 2014 / The men and women of the United States military make untold sacrifices to serve our nation.  Many of these heroes step courageously into harm’s way to protect all that we hold dear.

One of these heroes was honored at Cubs Park in Mesa Arizona on Tuesday 3/25/14. Sergeant Sigifredo (“Ziggy”) Buenrrostro (Ret.) along with his wife Evelyn and their 5 daughters were presented with a mortgage-free home sponsored by Wallick & Volk Mortgage Bankers.

Sgt. Buenrrostro joined the US Army in 2002 and served three tours of duty in Iraq. Sgt. Buenrrostro was part of security patrols that were subject to IED attack. He has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from his intense combat exposure. During his many years of service, Sgt. Buenrrostro received numerous awards and commendations including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Iraq Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star. Sgt. Buenrrostro is a true American Hero.

Wallick & Volk Mortgage sponsored this mortgage-free home for the Buenrrostro family through the Boot Campaign’s Heroes to Homeowners Program. This program is a power house of charity organized by the national nonprofit, Boot Campaign, their program partner Military Warriors Support Foundation, and championed by The Duncan Group and Mortgage Coach to bring together mortgage industry leaders to show support for our nation’s military and honor our wounded veterans.  As part of this special partnership, Chase Bank donated the home for the Buenrrostro family and Wallick & Volk donated $30,000 that will cover the costs of home renovations needed for safety and accessibility and counseling for the financial stability needed to maintain home ownership.

Wallick & Volk worked closely with the Cubs organization to create a very special day for Sgt. Buenrrostro and his family.  The home presentation was made right before the Cubs vs. Angels spring training game at the new Cubs Park in Mesa. Sgt. Buenrrostro threw out the ceremonial first pitch, sending it straight over the plate.  This Cubs home game was also the largest attended game in Cactus League Spring Training history with 15,276 fans…a single game attendance record.

Present for the event were Wallick & Volk executives Michael Groff, Jim Volk and David Heuermann, representatives of program partners including Robyn Payne of the Boot Campaign, and the Honorable Scott Smith, Mayor of the City of Mesa. Mayor Smith and his administration are strong supporters of veterans and provide numerous resources for Mesa veterans.

The Boot Campaign is a national 501c3 nonprofit that is dedicated to showing tangible appreciation of our active military, raising awareness of the challenges they face upon return and supporting their transition home.  Through the sale of its signature military combat boots, general public donations, and corporate sponsorship, the Boot Campaign operates six distinct initiatives -- Jobs, Housing, Wellness, Education, Urgent Assistance and Family Support-- that are caring for military personnel, past and present, healing from a variety of physical and emotional combat wounds, embodying the campaign motto that, “When They Come Back, We Give Back.”
